Hi everyone. I knew that there was a substantial amount of funds in the unclaimed property coffers but I had no idea how much so I did a little research. Depending on who you believe, the estimates range between 1 in 8 to 1 in 10 americans have funds being held by a state and having no idea it exists. Another bit of information that I feel you should be aware of is that recovery of the property is not limited to the original owner. The property can be recovered by the owner's heirs in the event that the owner cannot claim the property due to death or incapacity. The property remains the owner's property. The state's responsibility is only as a holder of the property.

I was amazed to learn the magnitude of the property value and the likelihood that someone that I know may have a claim.

So I strongly suggest that you check the unclaimed property division in your state because there is a real good chance that you or someone you care about might be entitled to an early Christmas present.
